Background of the Study
Indigenous language broadcasting in Ikom Local Government Area plays a transformative role in community development by enhancing cultural connectivity and information dissemination. Radio and television programs in local languages have emerged as key tools for community engagement and empowerment (Obong, 2023). These broadcasts provide a platform for discussing social issues, disseminating educational content, and preserving oral traditions. The use of indigenous languages in media strengthens community bonds by affirming cultural identity and promoting local participation (Asuquo, 2024). Moreover, indigenous broadcasting contributes to literacy and knowledge exchange, particularly in rural areas where access to formal education may be limited (Edet, 2023). The study examines the dual role of indigenous language broadcasting as both a cultural preservative and a catalyst for socio-economic development. By critically assessing programming content, audience reception, and the role of local media, the research sheds light on how such initiatives contribute to holistic community development (Mbanefo, 2024).
Statement of the Problem
